Kidzania's "KidZ Vs Food" Programme

KidZania Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with Panasonic Cooking and in collaboration with celebrity chefs, cookbook authors and an international food artist, sets out to inspire kids to cook in ‘KidZ vs Food’. Running from 26 November 2016 to 1 January 2017, the programme is an initiative to cultivate cooking interest among children by introducing elements and processes that are both practical and fun. Here the launch of the KidZania "KidZ Vs Food" Programme.

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change. We hope that through KidZ vs Food, we will be able to alter how kids look at food and cooking. We want them to discover the simple joys of cooking and build a sense of confidence and self-sufficiency that comes from successfully completing various cooking tasks and challenges,” explains Shahrul Nizar Ahmad, Mayor of KidZania Kuala Lumpur.

Shahrul Nizar adds, “We hope that this programme will also lend value to parents. We want them to see that by involving children in the kitchen, you’re not just making food, you are teaching science in action; helping to lay down basic math, reading and time-telling skills; encouraging healthy food choices; building confidence and creativity; enhancing communication and deepening connections with your child.”

KidZ vs Food is divided into four activity segments:
  • Pop-up Kitchen allows kids to take charge as they handle end-to-end prep of fast and easy recipes that they can then re-enact at home;
  • Food Science explores the more technical aspects of cooking, demonstrating to kids how chemical reactions and conditions can create different food tastes and textures;
  • Food Art teaches kids about the basics of food presentation and how to create beautiful desserts;
  • Professional Workshops led by some of Malaysia’s favourite celebrity chefs, cookbook authors and food artists.

Lending their expertise to the programme and the professional workshops are celebrity chefs Dato' Fazley Yaakob and Brian Chen (more fondly known as Abang Brian), international food artist Samantha Lee, award-winning cookbook author Mohana Gill, and the inspiring seven-year-old Chef Leah of ‘Chef Leah with a Big Heart’.

On that day, there was a cooking demonstration by Dato' Fazley Yaakob, a father of 3 kids and the Ambassador for Panasonic Cooking in Malaysia and has worked with international brands Carrefour and Cadbury and received the Award of Excellence by the former Malaysian Prime Minister for all his works.

Another cooking demonstration is done by Abang Brian Chen, who is the owner of Young Chefs Academy, an international franchised cooking school for kids

The KidZ vs Food programme will also play host to the KidZania Zuper Kitchen Challenge, a children’s cooking contest where the top five finalists will get the opportunity to receive prizes comprising of Panasonic cooking appliances, culinary courses at the Young Chef’s Academy, autographed cookbooks, as well as KidZania Kuala Lumpur tickets and merchandise worth over RM5,000!
